Rockd is an incredible tool for geologists and those interested in the world of rocks. It offers a range of features that allow you to explore, learn about, and document your geologic surroundings in a professional manner.

One of the standout features of Rockd is its Dashboard, which provides instant access to geologic and geographic summaries of your current location. This feature allows you to quickly gain valuable insights about the rocks in your area, helping you understand the stories they tell.

With over 290 geologic maps available and more being added regularly, Rockd offers interactive global access to a wealth of information. The 3D virtual globe allows you to explore landscapes in a dynamic and engaging way.

For fieldwork, Rockd includes a built-in map caching system that allows you to save maps for use offline. This feature ensures that you always have the necessary information at your fingertips, even when internet access is limited.

In addition to its extensive map collection, Rockd also provides access to paleogeographic maps and published literature containing mentions of mapped geologic units. This comprehensive approach allows users to dive deep into the world of geology and stay up to date with the latest research.

Rockd also offers practical tools for collecting field data. With the ability to add your own observations, tag features from Macrostrat and the Paleobiology Database, and record strike/dip or trend/plunge using your phone's compass, you can easily document your findings and track your progress through the geologic record.

Whether you prefer to keep your work private or share it with others, Rockd has got you covered. You can choose to share your journey through the geologic record with others or explore the public activity of fellow users using unique URLs.

It's worth noting that Rockd is the product of the Macrostrat lab in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Geoscience.
